For International Students
Studying at Toyota
to fulfill dreams!
Winner of the 2023 Japan
Study Abroad AWARDS
Selected as a recommended destination for international students by instructors of Japanese language schools in the vocational and technical education category. This award was established in 2012 with the aim of contributing to the environment for foreign students aspiring to study in Japan.
This year, 326 votes were received from 110 Japanese language schools nationwide, with a total of 50 schools receiving top rankings. Furthermore, the top 10 schools selected from each region in each category were awarded and commended.
Selected as a Proper School (Class I) by the Osaka Immigration Bureau
Proper schools are selected from educational institutions that conduct appropriately and smoothly immigration and residency examinations for foreign students (those who wish to enter Japan under the status of residence "student"). Selected educational institutions benefit from the simplification of some of the documents required when enrolling foreign students who apply for residency permits in Japan. Class I schools are further permitted to simplify documentation.
We will continue to strive to create an environment that is conducive to the learning of international students.

I was initially anxious about studying abroad, but at Toyota Kobe Automobile School, the teachers provided thorough support such as handling all visa-related matters. Thanks to this, I could concentrate solely on my studies without any worries. The teaching was patient and detailed, making it easy for international students to understand. I also received support for job placement. What I learned in the 6-month, 12-month, and 24-month inspection classes was immediately useful when I started working. Strong Qualification Acquisition!
High Pass Rate for National Qualifications
This qualification certifies specialized knowledge and skills related to maintenance, such as vehicle inspection, repair, and fault diagnosis. As our school is a training facility certified by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, practical exams are exempted, and the qualification can be obtained by passing the written exam only. With the unique educational curriculum of Toyota schools and the support of experienced instructors, we achieve a 100% pass rate every year.
Toyota Exclusive Qualification Usable Worldwide
A qualification that serves as evidence of an engineer recognized by Toyota Motor Corporation. Graduates of Automotive Maintenance and International Automotive Maintenance departments obtain Level 3 (G3) certification upon graduation, out of a total of four levels from 4th to 1st. At our school, students can undergo the learning system "TEAM-GP," utilized by Toyota engineers in 70 countries worldwide, to obtain certification. "TEAM-GP" offers globally standardized learning content that serves as proof of globally recognized technical competence.

Support for International Students
support 01Life Support
- Assistance with procedures for extending the period of stay and changing residence status
- Faculty members approved by the Immigration Services Agency act as proxies for various procedures, including applications for extension of stay and change of residence status. We handle not only applications for extending the period of stay and changing residence status but also procedures such as family stay applications when getting married or having children.
- Support for passing the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT)
- In the first year of the International Automotive Maintenance Department, we provide over 400 hours of Japanese language education to support students in obtaining JLPT N2 certification, which is required for employment in Japan, in addition to automotive classes. Even in the second year and beyond (for Automotive Maintenance Department, from the first year), we hold study sessions regularly after school and continue to support until students pass the exam. We also provide support for those who wish to pursue higher-level qualifications such as N1.
- Faculty members from Vietnam and Myanmar
- Vietnamese and Myanmar alumni of our school serve as teachers. They offer advice and support on topics such as understanding classes, studying Japanese, and dealing with life challenges, drawing on their own experiences at our school. They can provide assistance in their native language, which would be easier for students to communicate about difficult matters than in Japanese.
- Support in the event of illness or injury (medical visits and handling long-term absences)
- Living in Japan can bring various anxieties. When students fall ill or get injured and find it difficult to explain their symptoms to doctors, our school nurses and faculty members accompany them to ensure accurate explanations to doctors and proper treatment. We also provide support such as regular home visits for students who need to be absent for a long period.
- Accommodating dietary needs at the student cafeteria
- Our student cafeteria displays marks for pork and beef to ensure that Muslim students can use the cafeteria with confidence.
- Fully equipped dormitories with a dedicated area for international students
- In our student dormitories, which have a total of 432 rooms, we have designated areas specifically for international students. These areas are exclusively for international students, providing a secure living environment. With amenities such as dedicated kitchens, shower booths, and prayer spaces, we aim to provide a comfortable dormitory life. (Additional shower booths and kitchens for international students are planned for the future.)
- Partial exemption of dormitory fees and accommodation available for move-in at the end of March before enrollment
- We set lower fees for designated dormitories for international students, allowing them to reside in the dormitory at a more reasonable rate than living alone or in a shared room. Additionally, while enrollment usually begins in April just before the start of the school year, dormitories for international students also allow move-in at the end of March.
support 02Financial Support
- Enrollment fee reduction through JLPT certification
- Applicants who have already obtained JLPT N3 certification receive a ¥50,000 reduction in enrollment fees (for both Automotive Maintenance and International Automotive Maintenance departments). Applicants who enter the Automotive Maintenance department with N2 or higher certification receive a ¥100,000 reduction in enrollment fees. Those who pass the JLPT exam in December after passing the entrance examination can also receive the reduction, so please contact us as soon as the results are announced at the end of January.
- Monthly payment system for tuition fees, etc.
- While tuition fees are normally paid twice a year, in March and September, international students living in the dormitories can pay tuition fees and dormitory fees together each month. Monthly installments make it easier for students to manage their payments with less financial burden at one time.
- Celebration and financial support for students who pass JLPT N2 or higher during enrollment
- Students who pass JLPT N2 or higher during their enrollment receive a ¥50,000 award as a congratulatory gesture. Even for those who have not obtain certification before enrolling, please continue to study Japanese and strive to pass JLPT N2 during your enrollment. Those who achieve N2 should strive for N1 certification.
- Financial support for outstanding academic performance
- We also offer financial support for outstanding academic performance. The top-performing student in the International Automotive Maintenance department and the top-performing student among enrolled international students in the Automotive Maintenance department each receive a ¥50,000 award. Additionally, students with the highest grades who have no tardiness or absences and have not defaulted on tuition payments receive a ¥50,000 award at the end of the fiscal year. (Approximately the top 5 students)
- Support program for financially disadvantaged international students
- We provide financial support for international students who have difficulty paying living expenses and tuition fees due to changes in their home countries’ situation. This support program is based on donations to the Kobe City, so the eligible recipients and support amounts vary each year, but we implement it continuously every year.
- Scholarships for international students
- Every year, we receive many applications for various scholarships, such as the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) Scholarship, and the Rokko Scholarship Fund. Outstanding international students who have obtained N2 certification can be recommended for these grant-type scholarships, so please work hard in your Japanese and automotive studies and achieve good grades.
- Corporate scholarship program for international students
- Toyota dealerships nationwide also support international students. Many dealerships offer scholarships or loans to students who have received job offers. Please visit the Corporate Scholarships for International Students page for more information.
- Part-Time Job Introduction
- For those coming to Kobe for enrollment, we introduce part-time jobs near the school. These workplaces are well-acquainted with our school, allowing you to balance study and part-time work with peace of mind. Sometimes seniors and classmates are also working there, so you can start your part-time job with confidence.
support 03Employment Support
- Company Information Sessions for Hiring International Students Held at School
- Job hunting starts in September with company information sessions held at the school. Toyota-affiliated companies that hire international students come to the school and hold these sessions. You can listen to companies from all over the country at the school, allowing you to start your job search with confidence. Afterward, you will visit the companies you are interested in and decide on your preferred company. (61 companies participated in 2023)
- Resume and Interview Guidance: Individual Support Until Job Offer
- Each student is assigned a counselor to provide personalized support, from writing a resume in Japanese to understanding Japanese-style job interviews. This ensures that international students can navigate the job hunting process smoothly. We offer comprehensive support, from choosing your desired company to entrance exams and job offers, allowing you to approach job hunting with confidence. In addition to finding employment in Japan, we also provide consultation for those who wish to work at Toyota-affiliated companies in their home countries.
- Information on Job Openings Specifically for International Students
- Companies that hire international students provide specialized company information tailored for international students. This includes details on support programs, training systems, track records of hiring international students, and the number of international employees. Students can access this valuable information, collected through our unique network, right on campus.
- Provision of Employment Exam Information (Exam Content and Interview Question Collections)
- We collect past employment exam content and interview questions from when senior students took their exams, organized by company. This allows you to prepare for the employment exams with knowledge of each company's hiring methods, ensuring a smooth job search process.
Student Voices
Yemin Tet(From Myanmar)
International Automotive Maintenance Department, 2nd Year
Teachers at Toyota Kobe Automotive University explain practical exercises in a clear and patient manner using language that international students can understand. They also kindly teach us about job hunting, such as how to conduct company visits, write resumes, and practice interviews, so I believe I can get a job at my first-choice company. After graduation, I plan to work as a mechanic at a Toyota dealership for about 10 years and then use this experience to start my own automotive maintenance company in my home country.
Shan Chibu(From China)
International Automotive Maintenance Department, 1st Year

Whether at school or in the dormitory, I have made friends with students from various countries, including Japanese people, and enjoy my school life. In the future, I want to gain technical skills at a Toyota dealership in Japan and become a top-notch mechanic.
Tapa Magar Kamal(From Nepal)

The teachers at Toyota Kobe Automotive University taught me clearly, and I deepened my knowledge of the Japanese language and automotive maintenance techniques.
